10 Best Crochet Blogs Worth Following

Mikey, The Crochet Crowd

In the world of crochet, there are 1000’s of us inspiring people each day. These people are mini celebrities within themselves. You know them as bloggers.

Blogging is something that took me a long time to develop the skills. My friends at AllFreeCrochet taught me the art of blogger. During my learning process, I felt like I was being beaten over and over. It’s a skill that many people don’t realize exists. I mean, committing to a schedule was really tough for me. Things that were irrelevant or just not of interest. Bloggers depend on great success in the sense of others getting the word out about their blog.

Today, it is much harder to blog and become large due to the competition but also community rules within Facebook and other social websites has made it more difficult. For example, it’s considered spam if you go to other Facebook Pages or just start randomly dropping your URL into websites. You need partnerships and relationships between yourself and people of influence.

Bloggers are more important today than ever before. Your opinion counts. When people are looking for bloggers, they are looking at your blog as the decision factor to see your comittment and writing style. If you are passive, energetic or a sharp edge of a knife to avoid. In today’s very sensitive world of being politically correct, I find blogging harder than ever. My humour, to some cultures is offensive and people get their knickers in a knot… YET I know we have heard and seen worst on prime time television.

The following is my list of worthy bloggers to follow when it comes to crochet. List is no particular order.

  1. Moogly – Consistent, visually interesting and consistent in content.
  2. Cre8tion Crochet – I know Lorene in person and her personality. Her blog is a great representation of her.
  3. According to Matt – Absolutely love the presentation. This is one of my ultimate favourites. I love how his personality is non-formal  and you seem to get to know him through his blog. Excellent writing that brings me back to read more.
  4. Red Heart Blog – You may not have realized that Red Heart now has guest bloggers. The articles have really changed and are a lot more engaging than ever before. See what’s changed.
  5. Design Wars – One of the best for visual and organization in the world of crochet. Salena, the owner/writer, is really well spoken and really nice too.
  6. Goodknits – Heavy in photos and ideas. Definitely a go to blog to pick up tips and ideas.
  7. Crochet Concupiscence – Incredible, dynamic and totally worth the visit each time.
  8. Bev’s Country Cottage Blog – I’m a huge fan of Bev. In fact, one of our videos used one of her patterns back in 2009.
  9. Crochet in Color – Mix of personal life with lots of learning opportunities. She seems to hit the nail on the head for the everyday crocheter.
  10. Crochet Geek – Teresa Richardson of YouTube has a dynamic blog of patterns and learning opportunities. I’m a huge fan of Teresa’s work.

Do you have a blog? Chances are that I don’t know about it. Leave me you comments below with your URL for your website. I’m looking for dynamic people to highlight.

How do you feel about blogging? What entices you to follow a blog… leave me your comments below too.

I have to agree with you on several, there were a couple I hadn’t heard of yet! Thanks for sharing your picks! I love The Crochet Crowd, but I like to visit other crochet blogs too!! Thanks for your input, will check some of those out that I hadn’t heard of before!

  2. Sonya says:

    http://blackstonedesigns.blogspot.com — It’s still a bit of a work in progress, but it’s coming together! 🙂

  3. Andrea says:

Thank you so much for a great round up of crochet blogs. I love to get inspiration for my next project. I recently started a blog (thecrochetcupboard.com) and have been crocheting for just over a year now. I follow you on Facebook and you once even shared my “Baby Groot” pattern! (I was over the moon btw). This list can help anyone get started blogging because there is so much help out there. I love how crocheters support each other. TTFN!

  4. I am drawn to blogs with great photos and information about the projects so that I can try them out, too. My blog (http://yarnaway.blogspot.com) is a scrapbook of photos of my projects plus details about the pattern, yarn and hook I used (not just so that I’ll remember but so others can have that information too).

I have learned so much from other blogs and they are an amazing source of inspiration to me!!

(ps — I posted yesterday but it seems to have disappeared in the ether — my apologies if this shows up twice)

  5. My blog is not that impressive yet. What entices me to follow a blog is the content, pictures, layout and fonts. I like a blog that flows like a conversation and if they are offering free patterns it has to be one that is written well and not difficult to follow. Being a crochet addict I’ve been to all the above mentioned blogs before. Some I visit on a daily basis like clock work.

It’s so hard to always be politically correct all the time with some people being so sensitive. I take comments with a grain of salt and don’t take it personal. I look at it this way, your opinion matters to me if you are purchasing from me.

I enjoy everything you do and keep up the good work. I hope to be as half as good as you are.

  6. Third comment, since I totally forgot to answer your question. But since all good things are three I hope you don’t mind 🙂 At first my blog was a place to keep alll my ideas and links in one place, kinda like pre Pinterest, now it keeps my projects safe, with pictures and links. Sorta my scrapbook or diary. I have some tutorial posts with links and videos about some great techniques and since sharing is caring, those are in my thoughts on Thursday posts. Through blogging you get to know so many people from all over the world, which is so great. I live in Germany so I picked my mother language Icelandic, German and English for my blog posts.

  7. Attic24 is def missing from the list http://attic24.typepad.com/ Lucy has some great tutorials and so spring happy colorly blog 🙂

  8. Hey Mikey, thanks for this round up. I spot some of my fav. blogs there. I too have a little trilingual blog called Woollen thoughts, I try to have it a place for help and informations as well. Mostly crochet. You where one of the first crochet gurus I found online via YouTube Every time I find someone new to crochet I send him/her to your YouTube channel 🙂 I would love a visit from you to my blog 🙂
    Take care and crochet on

Attic24. Is an amazing blog to follow.

  10. Stephanie says:

Thanks for this list, Mikey! I love learning about new crochet blogs too 🙂 I have a crochet blog that focuses on “amigurumi”, although I also blog about all my other non-stuffie projects too! I agree, there is certainly a discipline required to be consistent and maintain a regular blogging schedule. I’ve managed to blog almost every week for the past 3 years and it’s been a wonderful journey so far! http://www.allaboutami.com/

  11. Thanks for this great list! I use a blog reader and have been busily adding the blogs that are new to me. I get so, so much of my inspiration and ideas from blogs.

I have a little blog — it’s actually an online scrapbook of my crochet — with photos and information about what yarn/pattern/hooks I used. It’s been a really fun way to share ideas about crochet and to meet people all over the world. If you are considering blogging for fun, I’d really recommend it! I’ve enjoyed every minute.

I’d love to have you all visit: http://yarnaway.blogspot.com

  15. Vita says:

So happy for Salena! She is amazing!
I am a crochet designer too and blog about my work and life at http://www.monpetitviolon.com ! So, you are welcome to visit it! Thank you! 🙂

  16. Susie K says:

    Attic24……………..enough said!

  17. Ruth Hunter says:

Love Moogly…how about Attic24…..lots of really colourful patterns

  18. I’m so happy to see that you featured the Design Wars blog, I personally have made a few great friends through that network of talented crocheters!

I love blogs that draw you in with pretty pictures but keep you with interesting posts that feel like they could have been written by a close friend. Free patterns and tutorials are nice but not absolutely necessary. I like the ones that showcase exciting new things and quality work! Zero drama, just 100% crochet awesomeness.

  19. Casey says:

your list has some great bloggers on it! I’ve reduced my list of blogs that I follow recently, I love a blog that has interesting content, it gets a little irritating to read the same things on every blog! Also, if a blog has really great pictures, I’ll follow it, I’m a sucker for pretty crochet pictures!

I have a blog that has been around for quite awhile, I blog less than I used to, something I need to work on again, I blame instagram! http://plus3crochet.blogspot.com

  20. Kate says:

Wow I am an avid crocheter. I’m an addict really. I am new to the blog scene but I am liking it and have become very motivated. I have a weekly segment called Project of the Week and it has kept me very focused and on track. I do a sneak peek usually on Sundays. I would love it if you were to check out my blog. I have also begun to dabble in the YouTube online tutorials. I’ve only made two so far and they arent great but they are ok. I am excited to continue to do more videos and learn to do them better. Never give up!! Thanks for all your tutorials and wonderful posts on Facebook etc. This is a great thing that you are doing for us ‘Littler people’. We all have to start somewhere right. 😉 Heres the link to my blog Crochet By Katie http://crochetbykatie.blogspot.com/

Thanks a million and as always Happy Hooking!!

  21. Melanie says:

What a great, great list of blogs! I follow several already …and picked up a few more good ones to add in my mix! I’m a newbie blogger. As you mentioned, FB is severely limited our communications and I’ve used that as my push to branch out in to other social media and blogging. Here’s my new blog. I would love to know what you think and be ever so honored for you to visit. Many thanks for all the wonderful work you do in our crochet community!

  22. Salena Baca says:

And i started my blog just 3 months back.. It may not be that much popular.. but im working on it to get so.. Wish me.. 😛

You can check my blog here at http://www.mycrocheteds.blogspot.in

  24. yarnchick40 says:

Great round-up of fab blogs! I’ve added some new bookmarks. I love that you are spreading the word that blogging is NOT dead (contrary to social media reports).
Stop by and visit any time 🙂
Thanks for the opportunity to share my link,

  25. Thanks I did find one I added to my list, Crochet Concupiscence. I think I will get a lot of inspiration out of this. One of my favorites is called Attic24 and her use of color is great. She is in the UK. I like something that is a little different and free form art is very interesting.

  26. uDobro says:

Hi! I’ve started just like a month ago, let’s see what happens 🙂
[Actually, I have two blogs about different things]
I love your videos! 😀 Good luck with everythig! :)))

  27. Hi, thanks so much for including Moogly! 😀 I’m honored! And such a great list to be in too – an amazing amount of talent there!

  28. Melanie says:

I was so glad to see Moogly on this list. Besides yours, her tutorials and blog are my go-tos. Thanks for the recommendations. Can’t wait to check them out!

  29. Brilliant list of even more brilliant crochet blogs! I do agree it’s getting harder to get noticed and even just follow other blogs so I’m usuaully searching for something which makes a blog unique (I’m especially drawn to amazing pictures as I usually don’t have the time to read through massive amounts of text). With crochet becoming more and more popular the amount of very talented people grows rapitely as well. This is a very good thing when blogging is seen as a hobby which helps connecting to people with the same interest, but might be more tricky if you want to turn it into a fulltime business. I’m in the early life of being a blogger (I blog over at http://www.loopsan.com) and loving the community feeling of it.

  30. barrettclan says:

I like to follow blogs with free patterns. That is really the only thing that entices me to follow one. I could care less about their stories of where they found yarn or their religious convictions (I’ve seen a few craft blogs that are like that), but if there are FREE patterns they usually have me hooked (pun intended).

  31. Sandi says:

    Good Tuesday Morning, Mikey,
Thank you for the blog site list. Honestly, the only blog I appreciate & read is yours!
I feel what you write is from the heart. That is meaningful to me.

  32. Some awesome blogs there – thanks!

I just started blogging this year and am really enjoying it. Still playing around with what posting schedule works for me though – bit tricky! My blog is about knititng, crochet and other crafts: pixelsandpurls.wordpress.com

I’ll follow a blog if it is edgy, a bit different and I’m enticed by the writer.

What do you think? Is Mikey bang on or out to lunch? Leave your thoughts here.
