New Spring Has Sprung Crochet Challenge

Spring Has Sprung Crochet Challenge

New Spring Crochet Challenge with The Crochet Crowd

Yesterday, I launched our feature challenge for this month. It’s a project that is intentionally versatile allowing our crocheters to do 1 of 3 concepts. Crocheters can either do a button up cowl, full length scarf or even an afghan. OR… they can do as many of the projects as they wish. Each finished sample is a new entry. To keep our challenge fair, we have assigned 3 different entry points.

  1. Button Up Cowl is worth 1 Entry
  2. Full length scarf is worth 2 Entries
  3. Afghan (Baby Size or Larger) is worth 6 Entries

Though our guidelines has the information written already, I will mention a few items as I think people are skipping over reading the instructions.

  1. You can use any yarn you wish… which means any colour, brand and etc.
  2. The pattern must be followed, you cannot submit another project as a substitute. This would defeat the point of the challenge.
  3. Part of the afghan element in this challenge is to figure out the stitch counts by using the Multiple Stitch counts as provided in the pattern. The point of this challenge is to be able to understand the instructions and manipulate the pattern to suit you needs. I could have given you the stitch counts but then the point of learning something is skipped.
  4. You must email a picture of your entry. There is no per-registration required.
  5. If you want your item to appear on Facebook, you need to post it yourself. We only upload your photo to our official FLICKR gallery only.

When doing the challenge do you just follow the button up cowl pattern to make the afghan?

    • You follow the multiple of stitch counts… There is a multiple of 7 stitches… so you will count to 7, another 7 and another 7… at the end of the chain when you get to the width you want, you just add 3 chains… The spaces in the middle are the sample… See my video tutorial if this doesn’t make any sense.

I watched the video yesterday at work (it was a S L O W day!). I really think this pattern would make a beautiful afghan, and I have some yarn I can use and have someone in mind as the recipient. I’m not sure if I’ll get it made in time to qualify for the drawing, but I’m certainly going to try my hand at turning this one into an afghan – thanks for sharing this one with us. (and while I love the beautiful transitioning yarn, I need to use up what I have that is in a solid color – oh well).

What do you think? Is Mikey bang on or out to lunch? Leave your thoughts here.
