Sometimes Being Associated to Humans Really Sucks

Black Fish Movie

Tilly The Whale from The Blackfish Movie

I have this strange fascination with pools and aquatic creatures. The idea that we humans can mimic the habitat for creatures such as majestic whales, dolphins, sea lions and seals to be on exhibit for learning more about them.

The last time I have been to a place like this was during my honey moon in 1995. We had gone to Marine Land in Ontario Canada. It was a packed show. This show changed my perception. Kandu the whale was there when I was a kid… and still there when I got married. Kandu was huge! He had outgrown the pool. He was brought out for about 5 minutes from a holding pen. Jumped up and finished the show. His dorsal fin, like you see with Tilly, was bent over, his tail was a permanent semi circle. In the holding pen, he was unable to stretch out. I was deeply saddened at that moment. I realized at this moment that what I had paid to see was the exploitation of a creature where it comes down to corporate dollars.

Last night on Netflix, a suggested movie was Blackfish. Never heard of it but did see the whale. I didn’t know the premise of the movie in advance. I was really heart broken watching this documentary of following a whale’s journey. The whale was Tilly. Tilly eventually kills two trainers and you will see evidence in this movie about the treatment and fear within these majestic creatures. It is really disturbing.

Here is a Trailer showing this movie.

I could write a novel about this movie… but I will say that I am so disgusted that the facts of events are intentionally spun in the media for the sake of the corporate dollar.

If anything, after seeing this…

I have no idea what the truth is in our society may be. I think the idea of truth and humans are two words that shouldn’t be used together. We’ve become really good at being selfish for our own personal benefit instead of looking around us to see others in need, creatures in pain and a complete mutilation of our living environment on this planet.

It comes down to two things… Power and Money… which most of us, including me, will never have in our lifetime but the idea of striving for it makes us crazy to achieve something that is impossible to get.

If only we could use as much energy to be community oriented and look to help others.

I’m not an activist… but I do think what each of us can do everyday that makes this world a better place can change our society tremendously.

I went to White House .org and there is section where you can digitally sign a all kinds of petitions that have been put in front on the president. One of the petitions is for releasing the Orca that SeaWorld has had in captivity for over 20 years in a tank only 20 feet bigger then the whale. I know it’s not huge such as releasing her but it Is a small thing I can do as one person to let Sea World and everyone who visits the petition area of the website know how I feel. Everyone should take the five mins it takes to sign. On a lighter note Mikey I love you ! I literally thought myself to crochet by watching you on your the best

Thank you Mikey. Very well said. I’m very tired of power and money being the driving forces in our society.
I think that all the small things we do everyday to spread positive energy, help someone or just bring joy to others makes a huge impact and are the ways to change the world.
    Happy Holidays!

Every living creature should have a home that it can thrive in. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen for fish, animals, or all too often even humans.

I so agree with you all, the poor things don’t have a chance cause they are helpless and can’t voice how they feel

I agree Mikey…So sad sometimes how us humans treat animals and other humans. These animals need to be free and not on display! I love animals and this just makes my tummy sick 😦 I am not an animal right activist either…I just love animals and everything Nature ….No one should have to suffer be it human, animals or anything that has feelings!

What do you think? Is Mikey bang on or out to lunch? Leave your thoughts here.
