Praising Others on The Crochet Crowd

Michael Sellick

Michael Sellick, Creative Director and Video Host for The Crochet Crowd

I love to feature fellow crocheters here on The Crochet Crowd Facebook. In fact, it’s one of the best things Cathy and I love to do in general as people, just like you and I, are deserving of having extra praise. In a typical day, we choose between 4 – 12 photos to be featured.

I’ve seen comments where people are scared to post their items as some of our featured photos are really elabourate. Some crocheters self doubt their own abilities or feel their work isn’t good enough to even post a photograph.

Inspiration comes in all forms. Photos say many things but also the words attached to it are just as inspirational. Sometimes, Cathy and I choose the inspirational photo based on the words or meaning applied to the photo. Sometimes, it’s just an idea. Other times, we just love the colourways of how the yarn worked out. You cannot predict what we will feature as we don’t know ourselves what we will feature until we review what others have posted.

Here at The Crochet Crowd, we are globally diverse. We are also very diverse in skill level, time allowance and yarn availability. Fact is, each of us have something to offer in the form of inspiration. Though we only feature so many photos in one day, take some time to visit our RECENT POSTS BY OTHERS on Facebook. You will see the most amazing creations. You will see people learning crochet for the very first time and see people pushing their own skills to learn something new.

Take a moment and CLICK LIKE or even make a quick comment. I bet you feel great when people comment on your photos. By commenting on other photos, you are encouraging conversation and exchange.

We cannot expect everyone to echo back all the effort we put forth; however… for me, my joy is expressed through giving without expecting much in return. For The Crochet Crowd, I know when I make an effort and that feels good for my soul to acknowledge another crocheter’s creativity. I can sleep easy knowing that is how to make a difference in this world.

Time is really strained for Cathy, Daniel and I. We would love to comment to everything and feature everything that happens on our page but we cannot continue to create our programs, videos and write content as maintaining this page is a full time job. We love it when community members, just like you, also step forward and realize you have the power to make someone’s day equally bright.

Thank you for being part of The Crochet Crowd! May your hook be good to you today!

  1. Very well put, Mike, whether the craft is to our taste or not, (I see many things that i would not do) You are not a crafter or hooker in this case, if you can’t see the love, care and personal creativity in each and every piece. So simply, each and every piece is someone’s masterpiece:)

I find this site better than therapy! It’s like I have tons of friends all over the world! I love seeing all of the different projects that get featured! I think I get more excited when I see the finished project of a new crocheter! I know that that one project has the ability to open up new possibilities for that person! Koodos to everyone of this site and Cathy, Daniel and you, Mikey! You three are the threads that keep us bound together!

Oh Mickey, you reposted one of my pictures not long ago & my husband said I was giddy for 2 days. LOL I was just awestruck by all the likes & comments of praise I got. Yes I had a warm fuzzy feeling inside reading the comments. Then I realized you reposted/shared my picture and I’m thinking “WOW, of all the photoes you get in a day you chose me!!!” Thanks for all you & Cathy do. I just love your positive mindset.

I often wondered how one gets the noble recognition by you (or Cathy, or Daniel) on certain pieces and have your stamp of approval for their creations. (I have always been one of those people who are terrified to “show my work” when I see some of the most marvelous and flawless creations) I envy (but also admire) those people as they get that well deserved recognition and appreciate the effort that goes into creating a wonderful, enjoyable, fun, and learning site. Thank you!

I am of the thought that you inspire us with your thoughts deeds and work. I have been crocheting for years , but still lack confidence in my work. You and the crochet crowd give me some of the confidence I do have, and perhaps some day I will post a picture,If I can figure out how. Keep up the good work.

I just love your site. I have learned many new stitches from your tutorials. I love sharing photos of my work. I love being able to compliment others on their work and give encouragement where needed. Thank you Mikey for making my days a bit brighter.

The Crochet Crowders are such a loving group! You take the time out of your busy schedule to make someone’s day by mentioning their efforts. That mentions just might be the only hug that person gets that day, or may be the thing that turns a not so good day into a great day! ❤ 🙂
You all are a blessing. thank you. Hugs.
