New Charity Crochet Outreach Program for 2014

New Charity Outreach Program for 2014

In 2014, we will begin a new Charity Crochet Outreach Program. This year, we have received over 400 requests to mention charities and programs that happen throughout the world on The Crochet Crowd Network.

Our charity of choice has been Crafting For A Cure. With the over 400 requests, we have been reminded hundreds of times that there is more than just one charity in the world that is worthy of recognition. We would like to identify this by helping our crocheters find charities that are closer to home.

We understand that shipping to Canada is an issue due to high postage costs. Our charity of choice may not be the charity you wish to support as well. For us here, at The Crochet Crowd, we have received import fees of $320 for the last run on the Crochet-Arium Creatures due to packages not being labelled as a gift. Even for us, it can be expensive.

Diva Dan will be coordinating the effort to create a master list of charities in North America that should be listed in our charity guide. Our mission is to find charities within your communities that will take yarn donations, crafting donations and financial donations related to crochet. This will allow you to keep your donations closer to your communities. This will help you give back and save money by finding local places within your reach where you can make a difference.

We will be forming a list of charities, with your help, for every State and Province in North America. We will be asking for your help to locate these charities.

We would like to receive an email from you telling us the following:

  • Name of Charity
  • Full Address for Charity with Phone Number
  • Website Address
  • What is their mission? State in only 2 sentences.
  • Official Charity Number to validate the charity is legit.

Please email us at MikeysHelpDesk@hotmail.com In the Subject Line, please type Charity Listings.

To ensure that our listings are legit and trustworthy, we will only be listing charities with registered charity numbers. We applaud 1000’s of groups, schools and churches who do collections for charities. We have a responsibility to ensure the information we present is accurate. We prefer to list the charities directly and not 1000’s of micro groups all over that are supporting the same charity. Please ensure the charity you are suggesting is related to our mission.

With our new program, you will not receive individual recognition like we have been doing with Crafting For a Cure donations. Giving donations comes from your heart and if you do participate in charity already, like we do, you know how great it feels. The local charity you choose should be the one to extend you gratitude and appreciation for your hard work.

Listings should appear on our website in early 2014.

On behalf of my team, we thank you sincerely!

Michael, Cathy, Daniel and Colleen

    Hi everyone,
The Victor Valley Knitting and Crochet Guild out here in California, is involved in many local Charity groups. but last year we sent 50 Red Scarves to a Charity located outside California. This group gave them to children in foster homes for Christmas all over the United States. We sent them through UPS and it was free, because it was going to a Charity.
So you may want to check out this as a shipping option.
Thank you Mikey, you are doing a wonderful job. I really enjoy all that you and your team has offered on The Crochet Crowd. Keep up the good work.

Don’t know if this is the type of charity you are looking for, but military Veteran’s homes request lap afghans. Maybe if there is one near someone in the Crochet Crowd, they could obtain information needed from them. There is a Veteran’s home here in Florida which I contribute to. They also have a small store they try to stock with small gifts that the Veteran’s can purchase for their loved ones. They win store dollars at bingo to purchase their gifts.

Are you specifically looking at Canadian charities?

  5. Mary says:

What is a “Charity Number?”. Is that the same as the Federal Tax ID#??

    Thanks.

This is perfect!! I have been looking for a charity to help and most everything I came up with was in the States or Africa and that is costly to mail to. I will be looking at your list and will help out some charities in Canada. Thank you so much for doing this! Very exciting!!

  7. Janice says:

My charities are Christian Children’s Fund Canada and SPCA

  8. Donna says:

That is a huge undertaking. I’m sure you’ll do a great job!

  9. Melinda says:

This is a great idea, Michael! I am the volunteer Social Media Director for Stitches From The Heart and we would love to be included on your list. I have emailed the director this post so that she can send the info you need. Keep up the good work! (From Crochetnewstoday.com)
