Aude to Autumn: Crochet Wreath Project

Crochet Project

Fall Time, Wreath Project

I know I am going to contradict myself in this article about loving fall but I am going to try anyway.

Here’s a free crochet project, Autumn Wreath.

Though for many of my southern American friends, you won’t be seeing the cool temps for a while but trust me, it’s coming you way eventually. Fall for me, is a sense of renewal and it’s remarkable that the first week of September for our region is a drastic change. It’s like that every year. It’s like a switch got flipped and suddenly the weather gets cooler and more rainy.

Some of the leaves have already begun to change but we haven’t seen the golden, red, yellow and burnt auburn leaves as of yet. It’s still a bit early and it can wait as long as it needs to.

The smell of rotting leaves is heaven to me. Again, I think it has to do with a sense of renewal and association to kicking the leaves on the way to school many moons ago. I love fall only until the leaves are hanging by a thread from the trees.

As soon as the trees are bare, the landscape gets dingy, gloomy and quite frankly depressing. We wait for snowfall to come to give our landscape the next change in the season. By the time our Thanksgiving rolls around in the 2nd week of October, we are on a one way path to winter. We can expect wet snowflakes to fall once in a while and heavy snow as early as November. The snow will last all the way until May, in some cases.

Winter cane be long, dark and for me, I get tired of wearing multiple layers of clothes and sweaters! In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy the fall for the few short weeks that it is here. Before we know it, the Christmas music will be on and we are barreling our way through another holiday season.

I live in South Florida, where our temps are still in the 90’s!!! Even so, Fall is my favorite season!! I LOVE the colors and smells and pumpkin everything!!! I look forward to making this beautiful wreath!! Thank You!!

  2. *sigh* I understand, Alberta winters are long and cold, seemingly moreso the last couple years, I go stir crazy, hate the extra layers and even worse the -40 days when it feels like no matter how many layers you wear you will never get warm… oh and the really long nights… and the lack of sunshine… I just muddle through with my favorite quilt, my little fireplace and a hook — that’s when I tend to get elbow deep in my Christmas gift making… failing that a good book and some hot company… oops I mean chocolate… yes that was it hot chocolate… with marshmallows… don’t tell my husband lol

For me, Fall is depressing. I hate seeing all the trees bare. I will go into a “depressive funk” for awhile. I have been diagnosed with S.A.D. The initials are so appropriate. My favorite season is spring, when things come back to life.

Fall is my favorite season as well. I love the colors of the leaves on the trees, the smell of the earth, the cool crisp mornings with a hint of frost even and then warming up to a beautiful day. My favorite thing to do growing up was raking up a huge pile of leaves and jumping in them, we did it for hours. Do kids do that anymore?

  5. Doreen says:

I love Autumn…hate winter! A little snow around Christmas and it can all melt after that, except here it just keeps coming and coming… Only good thing is it kills all the spiders, lol!

  6. Cathy says:

I welcome cooler weather. It never really gets “cold” here; just less hot. Winter is not in our southern vocabulary:(

  7. I too love Fall not only for its beauty but for the smells of anew in the air! Fall is and always has been my favorite time of year 🙂
