Introducing Crochet-Arium: Charity Project for The Crochet Crowd

Crochet-Arium, The Crochet Crowd,

Contribute to our incredible Crochet Aquarium Exhibit!

We are looking for your help to populate our incredible Crochet-Arium for Creativ Festival this October 2013.

We are looking for 1,000 creatures / decor and anything ‘under the sea’ themed for this show.

We’ve earned a reputation for showcasing yarn in a creative sense by pushing limits and boundaries. If I could truly convey how incredible our exhibits are and the reactions to up to 20,000 guests who view it first hand, I would gladly share that feeling with you.

Our 20′ x 30′ exhibit will appear as if we are at the bottom of the sea. Suspended characters and strategically placed characters crocheted by you. Can you imagine a yarn bombed boot or even an anchor?

While at the show, guests will be allowed to ‘fish’ from our aquarium with a minimum cash donation that will benefit Crafting For A Cure 100%. Guests can either purchase a character(s) and either take it with them and/or have us forward it to a child in a hospital.

I’m a strong believer of charity participation. Crafting For A Cure covers North America Wide in their reach. Just like The Crochet Crowd, they go beyond the local level.

If you have some extra yarn and would love to be on record for helping us make this exhibit, we would gladly love your help.

Each donation will be photographed and maintained for all to see on The Crochet Crowd Network. You can opt for us not to share your name if you wish.

Crochet Crowd

The Random Draw Winner can choose which item they want. Either the Furls Crochet Hook or The Swarovski Crystal Bracelet

Extra Giveaway Initiative

On top of that great feeling of participating, every donation that has a minimum of 5 Creatures for our Exhibit will be entered into a random draw. The winner will be able to choose which item they want. They can choose either the Furls Crochet Hook or the Crystal Bracelet.

The creatures need to be a gift you would give away to a child to make them feel special. This challenge is global in size, the draw is random and anyone on planet earth has an opportunity to win.

Below are some ideas, but don’t limit your creativity. As you know, under the sea is a world unto itself. People are inspired by crazy and imaginative ideas. So go crochet crazy with your ideas.

Most of them are super super cute! Happy clicking, these are really great!

  2. I’m extremely inspired together with your writing abilities and also with the structure
to your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it your self?
Anyway stay up the nice quality writing, it is uncommon to see
a nice weblog like this one nowadays..

Shipped out my package today from PA,USA. I put The Crochet Crowd Studio as the address for customs not Crafting for a Cure, since there wasn’t anything written as to who the gift was for. I hope this will be alright.

  6. Melissa Wolcott says:

I have 3 sting ray & 3 jelly fish shipping out from PA, USA, in a day or two. This is a great project. I hope you have a good turnout.

  7. Sheri Goad says:

Oh my! Something else to play with. I know how I am spending my Friday night. Can’t wait to get creative under the sea!! SO glad I came across this before the deadline. Headed out for a Crochet Getaway Weekend with girls first part of October. Looks like we could be playing with some fishies!!

  8. Question: I have some yarn that *I* think would be perfect for a seabed and I’d love to make several small blankets. Is that appropriate? Or would you prefer we stick to sea creatures?

    • Small blankets are just as needed. We can forward them on… if they can match our aquarium theme we can use them as decor and then forward them on to a child after the show. Thanks for being thoughtful.

  9. Barbra Knight says:

I’m excited to participate!!! I just finished a project and this will be great to start on next. In fact I already have five small ones finished. Thanks for the opportunity.

  11. Suzanne Barone says:

Hi Mikey – Do you have any size minimum in mind? I was thinking about a “school” of fish but I am not sure it would work for this unless I connect on a mobile. What do you think?

  12. Julia Spires says:

Hi E1 at Crochet Crowd. I have already started, I am so excited to do these as well as being able to give for such a wonderful cause. Ty Mikey for giving me a direction on working on things.

  13. Brenda Butler says:

i will be sending as well …

  15. I’m definitely going to be making some things to send you, Mikey – it’ll be nice to have something from the UK there 🙂

  16. Peg Murphy says:

Working on the Manta Ray. Plan to make more.

  17. Daisy says:

I’m working on a special String Ray right now. I’ve made a jelly fish but not from the above linked pattern though.

  18. Karin says:

Is there a specific, or even a minimum, size you’re looking for? And since anything I send will be coming across the border, what’s the latest date you would prefer to receive them by?

    • Mikey says:

Oct 20th… We would like something tangible that a child would appreciate in a size.

      • Karin says:

Lol, can you put that into inches? My four year old has creatures I’ve made him in various sizes and he loves them all. For instance, is 6″ too small?

  19. Gwenyth Love says:

Just picked up some patterns I want to try specifically for this. Can’t wait!

  20. Peg Murphy says:

Been working on the Manta Ray and of course have run into a problem. Can anyone help?

  21. Kitty says:

Do they need to be real sea creatures or can we put a artful and fun spin on them?

  23. I am looking forward to doing this, done a few charity bits recently great use of stash! Must check what postage to Canada is like!

  24. Katelyn Morel-Allan says:

Hi, Just wondering does it have to be solely amigurumi?

  25. solla says:

    I’m a newbe . Thanks

  26. Teri says:

I’m really excited to work up some cute fish & shells!

  27. Roxanne says:

Is there a tutorial on youtube for any of these? I’m a newbe but I would surely participate.

  28. jenniferkwarren says:

Oh lovely! My SIL just gave me a great book for crocheted sea creatures! I’ll work my way through and send them in!

  29. Silverlotus says:

This is a lovely idea! Can you please post a deadline for sending them in? Or can we drop them off at the show, too?

Also, I’d like to offer a minor correction. Assuming the picture is of the actual prizes, Bella Perlina bracelets are not made with Swarovski crystals. They are, however, very beautiful. I bought one on a cruise last year, and I really love it.

  30. Lori Johnson says:

What is the deadline for getting them to you?? Been working hard on these and even tried my hand on a yarn bomb 🙂

  31. Andrea says:

Sounds like a great project. I am not a real crocheter, but I can say I’m a knitter of more than knots (that’s how I crochet, badly) So, I’ll leave this for the crocheters to participate until I can be a crocheter worthy of a contest like this one

  32. Amanda Steingiesser says:

I love this! I hope to start on these soon!!

  33. Sometimes i hate auto correct, lol. I will definitely be making something, though sometimes I do some very mad crochet, rofl. Have a great day everyone and look our for that auto correct, haha.

  34. I love this, I will defiantly be making something cute from one of your patterns. 🙂

What do you think? Is Mikey bang on or out to lunch? Leave your thoughts here.
