YouTube is now in the beta testing mode for what is called Cosmic Panda. Essentially, YouTube as you have grown to use it is getting a complete overhaul. The picture above is new home page of my YouTube Channel.
There’s been a few things I have done over the years that I am wiping my forehead from sweat appearing. At the time and recently I am thinking “Why Bother!”. It seems though, these procedures that go on behind the scenes are paying off in the new version of YouTube.
How you view videos is radically different. There are several templates that we as channel content producers get to choose. We have to find the one that best represents our channel. Being a YouTube Partner, I have extra bells and whistles when I cross compare my settings and opportunities with other sites that I provide content for that are not YouTube Partnered.
What has changed dramatically is the ability to change colors. I can change the background but I cannot change what is in the content itself. (Maybe that’s a good thing).
A lot of wording and descriptions were really evident. The new concept, most of the descriptions of the videos are not shown unless you click “SHOW MORE”. This means for the several hundred videos that have matching patterns to follow instead, a viewer must know to go look for the more information and click SHOW MORE to see it.
What is the most dramatic change is work related behind the scenes. My computer sounds like a Casino in full action all day, every day due to the amount of updates, comments, subscribers, friendship requests, and so much more. The new Change of YouTube dramatically impacts this. I woke up to 41 emails this morning instead of over the 100 – 150 emails I sift through each morning. That is a significant drop. It seems a procedure we were doing is now obsolete. However, Chanel and I have been on top of the procedures and recently brought on a 2nd assistant to aid in that as well. We will need to re-structure here as a result.
So right now it’s in beta mode and is expected to be released world wide in the next few weeks. I freaked out when I seen it…. but now that I had a day to sleep on it. I actually think it’s going to make finding videos easier and is a better viewing experience. That’s if the channels producers like me get a jump on it before it goes main stream to do the final touches. The default that it is set to doesn’t work for everyone. The default version that it gave me had my videos hidden.
Lots to think about. Love to know what you think.
YouTube to mee is almost a Facebook Meets YouTube Meets My Space Meets VIMEO… Change is great… and we will look back on the current version of YouTube and say… HOLY COW… that was pretty boring!
